Thousands of people will descend on North Buxton this weekend for the annual Homecoming.
The theme for the 102nd event is "Celebrating Buxton's Agriculture," and that has inspired some new events, including a tug-of-war with a tractor on Monday.
"So you can have a team of five that you can participate with and pull a tractor at a timed distance, and the fastest time wins," said Michelle Robbins, Curator of the Buxton National Historic Site. "So this is new this year because it is celebrating agriculture, so we wanted to bring in some agriculture fun."
On Saturday, the 32nd annual Family Feud Baseball tournament and the 3-on-3 basketball tournament both start. There is also a giant yard sale and swap meet, a kick-off party, a Beyblade tournament, and the Party in the Park on Saturday night.
"Some live music during the day on Saturday in the Park," said Robbins. "The parade is always a big one on Monday, that's our big day. Car show, vendor market, lots happening for everybody. Free inflatable rides and face painting for kids as well on Monday."
They also have something special planned on Monday after the parade.
"Teajai Travis from Windsor has Blaze of Story, so basically, he will be recording family stories in the schoolhouse," said Shannon Prince, former Curator of the Buxton National Historic Site. "So if anybody has a really cool story, or just your family story, he is going to record them so we can digitize them in our archives at the museum."
Sunday will feature a special worship service, followed by Songs and Narratives of Triumph from Tracy Lee, who has family roots in North Buxton. There will also be square dancing, a historical re-enactment, and a Talent Show on Sunday night.
The celebrations kicked off on Friday with the Buxton History and Genealogy Conference, and the Chatham-Kent Heritage Network unveiling a plaque celebrating Homecoming.
