LTVCA issues flood outlook due to weekend rain

Chatham-Kent residents could be looking at a lot of rainwater this weekend.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) has issued a flood outlook through Monday.

Environment Canada has called for 25 to 50 millimetres of rain in the area through Saturday night, with higher amounts of rain possible in the western portion of the Thames River watershed.

"Based on the current forecasts, the Thames River is expected to rise somewhat in response to the heavy rains," said LTVCA Watershed and Information Services Manager Jason Wintermute. "However, the river is not expected to reach bank full conditions, nor to flood the low-lying river flats adjacent to the river."

The LTVCA will update the outlook as information warrants.
