Evan Morrison is headed to the major leagues.
The 23-year-old shortstop from Wheatley was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 10th round with the 297th pick of the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft on Sunday, July 12.
Morrison played at Division II Grand Valley State, and was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2026.
He is currently in his second season with the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers in the Canadian Baseball League (CBL) and was the league's Rookie of the Year, and won the most Outstanding Offensive Player award last season.
Morrison was playing the CBL All-Star Game in Chatham on Sunday when the Rangers made the pick.
