Families are invited to a free community event aimed at teaching kids about safety and awareness.
Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers will hold the next Children's Safety Expo on September 12 at the St. Clair College Chatham Campus.
"We are very excited for this year's Children's Safety Expo," said Erica McIntosh, Coordinator at Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers. "It is a great opportunity for families to come out and learn about ways to stay safe at home, at school, and in the community."
One of the top attractions at the expo is the Kids Fingerprinting Clinic, which provides a free digital child identification record that can be used if a child ever goes missing.
"The fingerprint clinic provides the digital record that families can keep," McIntosh explained. "It's important for people to know that Crime Stoppers [or the police] does not store any personal information or keep any of the fingerprint records from this event."
There will be live demonstrations throughout the event, including fire extinguisher demonstrations, the Jaws of Life vehicle rescue, a rollover crash simulator, and a K9 agility demonstration. Families will also have a chance to check out a variety of emergency response vehicles, participate in hands-on activities, and talk with local first responders and safety professionals.
The event will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Any money raised during the event will go back to CK Crime Stoppers, as the program runs entirely on donations and private sponsorships.
