People in Chatham are being asked to avoid overusing water this week.
Repairs are currently being done on a major water transmission line along Charing Cross Road, which supplies the Chatham Water Treatment Plant.
People can still use water for normal household needs, such as drinking, cooking, bathing, and other essential purposes.
Instead, the Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (CK PUC) is asking residents to avoid or limit watering lawns and gardens, washing vehicles, driveways, and outdoor surfaces, filling or topping up swimming pools and hot tubs, and other non-essential activities.
"There is currently no impact to the safety or quality of Chatham’s drinking water, and the Chatham Water Treatment Plant continues to operate normally. The conservation request is a precautionary measure to help maintain adequate water supplies while the repair is completed," read a statement from the CK PUC.
The work is expected to be finished by Friday. Until then, Charing Cross Road will be closed to through traffic where the work is happening.
"Residents whose properties are within the affected section will continue to have access to their homes but will not be able to travel through the worksite," read the CK PUC's statement.
