Last chance to drop off CK household hazardous waste in 2026

The final day of the year to drop off household hazardous waste in Chatham-Kent will be this coming week.

Veolia Environmental Services said it will take place on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their facility at 141 Prosperity Way in the Bloomfield Business Park on the outskirts of Chatham.

Accepted materials include cleaning chemicals like pool chemicals, bleach, ammonia, gasoline, oil, paint, pesticides, light bulbs, batteries, cleaning fluids, solvents, pharmaceuticals, and needles from residents only.

Computers, televisions, printers, cell phones, and BBQ propane tanks up to 30 pounds only will also be accepted.

Not accepted are commercial, industrial, and agricultural waste, infectious or radioactive waste, PCBs, explosives, such as flares or ammunition, propane tanks over 30 pounds, and empty containers.

The municipality reminds the public that all material must be in clearly labelled, sealed containers no larger than 20 litres, and that the maximum accepted quantity is 50 litres of waste material.

Needles must be delivered in rigid puncture-proof containers.

Those dropping off materials are asked to stay in their vehicle and to not mix different types of material.

Veolia Environmental Services said dropping off materials will be more challenging on Tuesday because the 7th Concession will be closed at Bloomfield Road due to construction.

They're asking the public to follow Bloomfield Road to the 8th Concession (County Road 14), turn West to Dillon Road, then turn North to the 7th Concession, and turn East to Prosperity Way.
