Bruce County launches first Environmental Sustainability Action Plan

Bruce County says it is turning its green goals into practical, on-the-ground action, with the approval of the first Environmental Sustainability Action Plan (EASP).

The plan will provide a roadmap of steps that can be taken over the next five years to help the region prepare for changing weather and future pressures.

"This Action Plan is about being ready for what’s ahead and taking practical steps to keep our communities strong," said Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau in a media release. "By focusing on sustainable actions, we’re protecting the places we care about and supporting the people who live, work, and visit here."

The ESAP organizes around four focus areas: Climate Adaptation and Mitigation; Stewardship and Forest Conservation; Waste Management; and Sustainable Transportation and Mobility.

Each focus area includes goals, objectives, and actions that will guide County planning and investment.

In terms of cost, staff said the development of the plan was undertaken using existing resources. As for the rollout, the plan is intended to occur primarily within existing organizational resources, but where appropriate, staff will also pursue external funding opportunities, and cost-sharing arrangements. Budgetary items would be brought to council during the annual process.

The full plan is available online on at the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan webpage.
