The City of Owen Sound has officially marked the completion of the new Weaver’s Creek Trail and Boardwalk with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held in Harrison Park on September 21. The event celebrated the reopening of a popular trail connection and the conclusion of a significant infrastructure upgrade within one of the municipality's most cherished natural spaces.
The city-led construction project, which began earlier this year, addressed aging infrastructure along the creek corridor. GSS Engineering managed the engineering design, while TDI Land Restoration carried out construction.
Work focused on replacing both upper and lower boardwalk sections alongside related trail enhancements. The upgraded infrastructure was designed to withstand the creek valley's unique, damp conditions, extending the pathway's lifespan while improving long-term safety, accessibility, and durability.
In addition to supporting safer passage through the valley, the new boardwalk plays a key role in safeguarding the surrounding ecosystem from trail degradation. City officials note that investing in resilient materials today ensures the recreational link remains accessible to the public for years to come.
Harrison Park serves as a central hub within the city's broader network of parks and outdoor spaces, and residents and visitors alike are encouraged to come out and explore the newly reopened trail network.
