Kincardine opens up Davidson Centre as evacuation centre following fire

Kincardine has opened up the Davidson Centre as an evacuation and reception centre after numerous residents were displaced due to a fire Friday morning.

Emergency crews have been responding to a fire in Kincardine since this morning, resulting in the evacuation of residents from the affected area. Huron Terrace, between Broadway and Durham Streets, has reopened to traffic.

The Davidson Centre has been opened as a temporary evacuation centre for residents that were displaced, offering support, shelter and information.

The immediate priority is ensuring that those displaced have access to a safe place to stay and the supports they need.

"The public are asked to avoid the affected area to allow emergency crews to respond safely and effectively. Residents wishing to help are asked to wait for further information about specific needs and how they can provide support," a statement from the municipality read on its website.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. As a result of this incident, the Voter Help Centre hours scheduled for Saturday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. have been relocated from the Davidson Centre Hall to the Miller Room at the Davidson Centre.
