Five members of the Sarnia Bluewater Wrestling Club are gearing up for the experience of a lifetime.
Taylor Chad and Abby Phelan will be heading to Norway to represent Team Ontario at the Kolbotn Cup tournament and training camp from November 19 to 26.
The event will feature many European countries along with Team Ontario, Team USA, and a team from Japan.
Bluewater Wrestling Club Head Coach John Burke is optimistic about the team's chances.
"I was talking to David Tremblay, who is our high performance coach for Ontario Wrestling. He's a 2012 Olympian and is the guy who has organized all of this," said Burke. "They're going in with the intent to win it, just based on the quality that they're bringing from Ontario. Our girls are right in the mix so it's going to be a really good experience for them."
Meanwhile, the men's team will travel to Freiburg, Germany for a training camp with one of Germany’s top clubs.
This week long camp will allow for many great training opportunities and will climax with the team taking in a professional Bundesliga Dual Meet.
Travelling with Team Ontario is Mathys Carrier Moreault, Griffin Wittliff, and Coach Lauchlin MacDonald.
This event runs November 16 to 23.
Burke said MacDonald is going as an apprentice coach.
"Ontario Wrestling has kind of fingered him to be mentored," he said. "It's a great opportunity for him. He's been on a couple of these trips now, he went to Calgary and New York last year. This is his first European trip. He's going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future."
Both European tours are being sponsored by The Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association (OAWA).
