Messy March expected for Sarnia-Lambton

The warmer wet weather will continue this weekend in Sarnia-Lambton, but we can expect to see a return to below seasonal highs by the middle of March.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Trudy Kidd said over the next couple of weeks, we'll see temperatures fluctuate between above and below seasonal along with rain and snow.

Kidd said that's to be expected around this time of year.

"Spring in Ontario is predictably unpredictable," said Kidd. "We get rain, we get snow, actually for Sarnia, typically in March sees 22 centimetres of snow and April is not safe either, 3.5 centimetres is common as well."

The forecasted high for Sarnia-Lambton on Saturday, March 7 is 18 Celsius. Kidd said that's well above seasonal for this time of year, but not a record.

"Definitely the forecast high for tomorrow is pretty remarkable, far above the seasonal average of four degrees for this time of year, but it doesn't quite reach the record," she said. "The record is 23.7 degrees Celsius which was set back in the year 2000."

Kidd said by Tuesday, we'll see the forecasted high drop back to single digits, just in time for March Break.

"Temperatures will return to more typical levels for a couple of days and then it looks like around March 14 or so we'll see a dip back to cooler than normal conditions. Those could stick around for about a week or so," she said.

Kidd said as it often is, it's going to be a messy March.

"I think a lot of people are going to want to ditch the warm layers but we're going to need our umbrellas this month, we're going to need our sunglasses, and those winter layers are going to be really handy," she said.

Spring doesn't officially arrive until March 20.
