Seaway Sounds is looking to grow its membership.
Director Michelle St. Onge-Mitchell said they'll be auditioning ladies who want to join their international chorus on March 25.
"We're looking for women of all ages, all walks of life," St. Onge-Mitchell said. "I think we're getting into our 43rd year in May. I've been in the chorus for 31 years now and we are 12 women right now. We've been as large as 60."
The group is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International (SAI) and SAI Border Lakes Region 2.
"We've had members as young as 12 years old and our oldest member is in her late 80s," said St. Onge-Mitchell. "We meet up every Wednesday night at St. Francois Xavier High School at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. We sing for about two and a half hours and we learn all types of different kinds of music, but it's all a cappella barbershop."
You can book an audition slot online.
St. Onge-Mitchell said the chorus has several upcoming events.
"[On] May 28, we're going to be at Two Water Brewing Company," she said. "[The event is] called 'Sing Loud, Shine Bright! A Seaway Sounds A Cappella Night.' It's inviting a bunch of women to come drink, eat, laugh and sing a cappella music. Then in the spring time we're going to be going to various parks and just sing, while we're out in the beautiful sun that we can not wait to have."
St. Onge-Mitchell said as long as you can carry a tune, they'll fit you into the group.
"We have our way down low basses, all the way up to our highest tenors. We teach women how to harmonize and we laugh and have a good time doing it," she said.
St. Onge-Mitchell said if you can't make it to the audition, or are looking for more information about their group, you can visit SeawaySounds.com or their Facebook page.
