Former ferry up for auction

A large vessel docked at Sarnia Harbour is currently up for auction.

The M.V. Jiimaan was recently listed for sale by the Province of Ontario and bidding will end on June 17.

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) said the 64 metre vessel has a passenger capacity of 384 and space for 34 vehicles.

It was primarily used for the Pelee Island ferry service from 1992 until 2019. The Jiimaan was docked in Sarnia when the Pelee Islander II came into service.

The MTO did not state if the Jiimaan needs repairs or refurbishments.

In the terms and conditions, it states that the vessel is being sold as-is and is "not represented as being in a sea-worthy condition."

The vessel was built at Port Weller Dry Docks in St. Catharines.
