Another shutdown at Windsor Assembly Plant

The Windsor Assembly Plant will be shutting down again the week of May 5.

Unifor Local 444 informed its members on social media that the plant would not be running that week.

A representative from Stellantis did not tie the shutdown to U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs.

"As the Company prepares for the upcoming launch of the 2026 model year Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler Grand Caravan/Chrysler Voyager and Dodge Charger Daytona, we are adjusting production at the Windsor Assembly Plant in order to complete the build-out of the 2025 model year vehicles. As a result, the plant will observe a down week the week of May 5. We will continue to monitor the situation," said LouAnn Gosselin, head of communications for Stellantis Canada.

WAP first shut down for two weeks after Trump announced a 25 per cent tariff on foreign-made automobiles and parts on April 2.

Workers returned to work for two weeks but were told the company had not made any decisions beyond the week of April 28.

Nearly 4,500 workers at the Windsor Assembly Plant and another 2,000 workers at auto-parts suppliers will be affected by the shutdown.
