Participants preparing for Torch Run

First responders will be running throughout Essex County on May 22 to raise money for the Special Olympics.

The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run starts at 8:30 a.m. in Lakeshore and will make stops in Tecumseh, LaSalle, Leamington and Kingsville before ending in Essex at 2 p.m.

"The Law Enforcement Torch Run is returning to Essex County, and we couldn't be more thrilled. Join us in supporting our athletes, this will help us fund them in showcasing their skills at various competitions. Whether it's honking your horn, giving high fives, or simply cheering from the sidelines, your support means the world to us. And if you're able, a donation to support the cause would be greatly appreciated. Let's come together and celebrate the courage and determination of these amazing athletes," said OPP Constable Jim Chauvin, Torch Run Coordinator.

Special Olympians, family, friends and community supporters will run, walk, or bike with the police officers along the route.

Donations can be made online here or on the day of the event by cash or cheques made out to Ontario Special Olympics.
