Downtown Councillor Renaldo Agostino says he wants re-examine the location of the H4 and the homeless shelters.
He feels downtown is shouldering too much of the burden of homelessness, addiction, and mental health issues.
"That's the problem. The shoulders are about to break and when the shoulders break for downtown the shoulders break for this entire city and that's not something I can let happen," said Agostino.
Agostino has requested a report from administration to ask how other municipalities determine the location of homeless shelters.
He'd specifically like to expand the location search for the city's Homelessness and Housing Help Hub.
"It's time for us as a community to step up and say no, no we want our downtown back," said Agostino. "We understand that the challenges out there are very complex and very difficult. But we have to come up with some solutions, we have to move forward on this. The days of managing this issue are done."
In 2022, a consultant recommended the new permanent home of the hub be within 2 kilometers of the downtown core.
