The City of Windsor is expanding the search for a location for the Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H4).
The city has been searching for a permanent location for the H4 since 2023. A property on Wellington Avenue was selected and then abandoned after the costs to expropriate and refurbish the land ran too high.
Since that time, the city has not been able to find a new location within two kilometres of downtown, as was recommended by a consultant.
A motion was passed at Monday's city council meeting to expand the search city-wide.
"Administration can now go out, they can look at properties city wide bring them back to city council for consideration, and based on past discussions that we've had around the table I expect that any property they bring forward will be quite a robust discussion around the table," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.
Once a location is selected, a plan will be developed to seek funding from upper levels of government.
"We're going to be very considerate and very deliberate in our approach and we recognize that this type of operation has a lot of negative consequences, unintended consequences," said Dilkens.
Dilkens would not attach a timeline to the project.
