The City of Windsor is interested in purchasing the Windsor Stadium property.
Council has voted to submit an expression of interest to the provincial government for the land in a recent in-camera meeting.
"We'll go through the process and see if we make it to the end but there is interest around the city council table to acquire the Windsor Stadium property," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. "It should be no surprise, it's something we've talked about for many years wanting to incorporate that into Jackson Park and the potential now of a housing project there, we'll see where we get at the end of the day but we want to move forward with that acquisition."
The fair market value of the property is estimated to be around $3-million. Since the property is currently owned by the school board, all other school boards will be given an option to buy the lands first before it is offered to other levels of government. If a deal is not reached, it would then be presented to the public sector.
Dilkens said the deal could take several months to complete, so any budget implications would likely not be realized until next year.
