A group of local agencies and businesses partnered with Windsor police for an event showcasing their services.
Windsor police and various community partners hosted a Community Care Fair on Thursday at the housing complex on Rivard Avenue off Tecumseh Road East. This area, police say, has generated the third-highest number of calls requesting law enforcement.
Police Chief Jason Bellaire and Ward 8 Councillor Gary Kaschak were on hand, along with representatives from various groups.
"Bringing services directly into neighbourhoods helps break down barriers and connect people with resources they may not otherwise seek out," said Bellaire. "These events not only support residents but also help reduce demand on police by addressing issues before they escalate."
The Rivard area is the fourth neighbourhood in the city of Windsor to host a care fair. The fairs acquaint residents with services that include mental and physical health support, on-site nurses, social workers, and others, to allow police to concentrate on high-priority calls.
Among the community partners participating were Windsor's two major hospital systems, Family Services Windsor-Essex, the health unit, the Windsor Essex Community Health Centre, the Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation, and the Canadian Mental Health Association of Windsor Essex County.
Other partners participating included the Welcome Centre Shelter for Women and Families, Brentwood Recovery, Life After Fifty, Ontario Health, Hear Canada, Community Legal Aid, and the House of Sophrosyne.
