Windsor police report downward trend in property crime

Windsor and Amherstburg residents may have noticed a continued drop in property crime for May.

That's according to the Windsor police's latest crime statistics.

Crimes against property in Windsor and Amherstburg dropped by 19.3 per cent when shown against May 2024. In 2025 to date, property crime declined by 16.9 per cent, compared to between January and May 2025.

There were 790 reports of property crime in May. Break-and-enter, theft, fraud, mischief, possession of stolen property, and arson fall into this category.

There were an even 4,000 property crime reports for 2025 to date.

While property crime continued trending down, personal crime went in the opposite direction.

There were 324 reports of personal crime in May, a year-to-year increase of 1.9 per cent. These crimes included murder, sexual assault, abduction, assault, robbery, and harassment.

This year so far, there were 1,266 personal crimes reported, up 3.8 per cent from the same period in 2024.

Criminal Code violations were down year-to-date in May but rose on a year-to-year basis. For 2025 so far, the decrease was 1.9 per cent, with 679 reports filed. Year to year, there was a 7.9 per cent increase.

Child pornography, non-violent weapons offences, betting and gaming offences, and administration of justice violations are considered Criminal Code violations.

There was not much change in the ward-by-ward breakdown for the City of Windsor. Ward 3, which includes the downtown core, had the highest rate of both personal and property crime.

Ward 9 had the lowest number of personal crimes in May, while Ward 1 had the lowest number of property crime reports.
