There will be a by-election to fill the vacant City of Windsor Ward 2 council seat.
At Monday's Windsor city council meeting, councillors voted to hold a by-election instead of appointing someone.
The seat was declared vacant after Fabio Costante resigned from the role last month.
"The person that is going to be elected is going to be one of the people charged with making billion dollar decisions, hundreds of millions of dollars of decisions so when it comes to accountability, $150,000 is a small price to pay to ensure that the people of Ward 2 have that accountability in the resident they choose," said Councillor Fred Francis.
It's estimated that the by-election will cost the municipality between $150,000 - $200,000.
The nomination period begins on July 21 and runs until September 12, 2025, at 2 p.m.
The by-election will be held on October 27, 2025.
