Outdoor art exhibitions coming downtown for Night Light festival

Art Windsor-Essex will host the first-ever Night Light festival this fall.

The festival will feature outdoor installations of art, light, and cutting-edge digital technology around the grounds of the art gallery on Riverside Drive.

"It's the idea of activating public space, seeing downtown in a new way, understanding all the different kinds of art that's being made today," said Jennifer Matotek, executive director of Art Windsor-Essex. "Celebrating digital art, installation art, interactive art, public art. It's going to give us an opportunity to showcase to Windsor internationally renowned artworks while also celebrating local artists."

The outdoor exhibitions will be on display from September 1 to September 21.

"There'll be two pieces, one is a digital work called automata that are sort of these monolith pillars that you can interact with and create digital art, and then the other piece, Eloge De L'Air (in praise of air), is a work that you can climb on with a partner and it swings," Matotek said.

The feature festival will take place from September 18 to 20 with flashlight tours and light tours of the gallery.

A ticketed Night Light Party will be held Friday, September 19, with DJs SOTC Productions and a laser light show.

More information about tickets and the event schedule can be found on the Art Windsor-Essex website.

The festival is sponsored in part by a $200,000 grant from the Gordie Howe International Bridge Community Benefits Plan.
