Five arts and culture organizations in Windsor will share $288,821 in provincial funding.
Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie announced the funding from the Ontario Arts Council on Tuesday.
"Our government understands the important role that the arts play in fostering dynamic and thriving communities across Ontario," said Dowie. "This support will help Windsor artists and arts organizations continue to make a positive impact on our economy, create good jobs, and draw more visitors to our community."
The largest chunk of the funding, $178,979, is earmarked for the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. The Media City Film Festival will get $43,354. Another $30,509 will go to Artcite Inc., Arts Council Windsor Region will receive $23,643, and Palimpsest Press, $12,336.
"Perhaps one of the most significant benefits of this funding is the support it provides for our education and outreach programs," said Executive Director of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra Patti Lauzon. "These programs remove barriers for young students, families, and seniors, ensuring live orchestral music is accessible to all in our community."
The Ontario Arts Council offers two main types of funding, project grants and operating grants.
"Now more than ever, we must invest in homegrown artists and organizations that foster pride, influence creativity, and strengthen local economies," said Tourism Minister Stan Cho.
