Suspect arrested in commercial break-in where car was stolen

Windsor Police have arrested a suspect after a break-in last month at a business on Tecumseh Road East.

Early the morning of September 11, a suspect forced his way inside the business on Tecumseh between Central Avenue and Meldrum Road. Once inside, police say the suspect took keys from an after-hours box and stole a 2017 Ford Fusion in the parking lot.

The vehicle turned up two days later in Essex.

The Windsor Police Auto Theft Unit identified the suspect, and on Wednesday, officers arrested a 49-year-old man on Chandler Road.

The suspect is charged with break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime exceeding $5,000, and failure to comply with a release order.

Anyone with information related to the investigation can call the Windsor Police Target Base Unit at 519-255-6700 ext. 4350, Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477, or go to www.catchcrooks.com.

The Auto Theft Unit reminds owners to take precautions against vehicle theft. It recommends using a tracking device, like an AirTag or GPS system, so officers can quickly locate the vehicle.
