The provincial government has strengthened its investment in private care with a significant investment.
Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones announced that the province will invest $125-million over two years to expand the performance of orthopedic surgeries at four private clinics in Ontario, including Windsor.
"By expanding orthopedic surgery capacity across Ontario, we are redoubling our efforts to reduce wait times and get more people access to life-changing procedures sooner, helping them regain mobility, reduce pain and return to the activities they love," said Jones.
The funding will allow an additional 20,000 orthopedic surgeries to take place, reducing the wait times for hip replacements, knee surgeries, and similar procedures.
The Windsor Surgical Centre will be one of four private clinics in Ontario to receive a share of the funding. The others are located in Toronto, Ottawa, and Richmond Hill.
Following a call for applications this past summer, the four facilities will receive licences to perform orthopedic surgeries, starting in early 2026.
The Ministry of Health has projected that once the facilities are handling orthopedic procedures, it will ensure that 90 per cent of Ontarians needing such care will be able to receive it within the clinically-recommended time frames.
