UPDATE: Suspicious fire causes $300K in damages

An early morning fire in downtown Windsor is being investigated as suspicious.

First responders tackled the blaze at the abandoned home on the corner of Mercer Street and Wyandotte Street East at around 8 a.m.

Crews went into defensive mode with water being applied to the exterior, and flames being seen throughout the structure.

Multiple agencies were on the scene shortly before 9 a.m.

Windsor police had closed various streets around the scene. All were reopened soon after 11:30 a.m.

Investigators were unable to enter the structure to complete their investigation, but are treating it as suspected arson.

Damages caused by the fire are estimated at over $300,000.
