OPP arrest two for impaired driving, including one after crash

Two Essex County residents face impaired driving charges, one after a crash in Lakeshore.

The Ontario Provincial Police were called to a single-vehicle crash on Rochester Townline Road on Friday evening.

No one was hurt, but a 63-year-old Belle River man was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs or alcohol, operating a motor vehicle while over the blood alcohol concentration of 80 mgs, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

His license is now suspended for 90 days while his vehicle is impounded for a week.

The second driver was charged on Saturday night while officers patrolled Gosfield Townline East in Essex. The officer was alerted by the Automated License Plate Recognition system, which indicated that a driver had committed a traffic infraction.

A 20-year-old Kingsville man now faces charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and impaired driving.

Last week, the OPP said Essex County had more impaired driving arrests during week four of its Festive RIDE campaign. There were 33 arrests between December 11 and December 17, more than in any other county in the West Region.

Across the West Region, there were 184 charges laid for impaired driving, and RIDE checkpoints continue across the region.
