A Tilbury man has been arrested after copper wire thefts resulted in $260,000 in damage.
Chatham-Kent Police Services (CKPS) allege, during the week of January 5, a business on Industrial Park Road in Tilbury sustained two separate break and enters in which copper wire was stolen.
In order to obtain the copper wire, significant damage was done to the business' equipment, with an estimated total repair cost of $260,000.
On January 9, police searched a home in Tilbury and recovered the copper wire. A 24-year-old Tilbury man was arrested.
He has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering, possession of property under $5,000, and mischief over $5,000.
The accused remains in custody at the South West Detention Centre.
Police are warning residents that wire theft can pose significant risks to businesses and infrastructure within the community.
