The region's newest millionaires are a couple from Windsor who have been playing the lottery for the past eight and a half years.
Doreen and Albert Drouillard won the $1-million MAXMILLIONS prize in the December 19 LOTTO MAX draw.
"I went to a local convenience store on Christmas Day to check our ticket. That's when the 'Big Winner' message flashed on the screen with all the zeros," said Doreen Drouillard. "I checked the ticket a few more times and began shaking with excitement. Then I went back to the car to tell Albert we won $1-million."
"I didn't believe her at first," said Albert Drouillard. "I had to confirm the numbers on OLG.ca to make sure it was real, and eventually it sank in."
When they shared the news with Albert's brother and sister-in-law, they didn't believe it at first either. Once the shock wore off, they were happy for the Drouillards.
The married couple plans to buy a condo, a new truck, and share their winnings with their grandchildren.
The winning ticket was bought at the CNIB kiosk at Walmart on Tecumseh Road East.
