Cardinal Carter opens satellite campus for skilled trades

The former Queen of Peace Catholic Elementary School in Leamington is getting a second lease on life as a satellite campus of Cardinal Carter.

The site houses two skilled trades programs, a hairstyling and aesthetics program and an Electrical Academy program.

Trustee Mary DiMenna advocated to bring skilled trades training to the county to give students access to similar programs that are available at the skilled trades academy at the former St. Anne's High School.

"They need the same opportunities. It's like an hour drive, there and back, by the time they get there they have to come back, it's not feasible," said DiMenna. "I wanted them to have the same opportunity."

The hairstyling program has been operating since the fall semester, while the electrical academy is in its first term.

"Honestly, I think this was the best place for me," said Grade 11 student Brayden Kossom. "To expand my knowledge, and I think it's a great opportunity to take, and I think this, in the long ru,n will help me."
