Environment Canada is warning residents in Windsor and Essex County that they are in for a wet day on Wednesday.
It issued a yellow warning for rain as a series of low-pressure systems moves through the region. The region could see between 20 and 40 mm of rain.
The ground is already saturated, so there could be flooding in low-lying areas and on roads.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) upgraded its watershed condition statement to a flood watch on Wednesday morning.
"Based on the recorded rainfall, smaller watercourses are flowing near or at capacity. Additional rain could cause some to spill their banks into adjacent low-lying areas," said ERCA Water Resources Manager Tian Martin. "People are encouraged to take extra caution and avoid areas where flooding is occurring, as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas during significant rainfall and wind events."
The flood watch is in effect until noon on Thursday.
