Poilievre presents details of proposed Auto Pact

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre laid out the details of his tariff-free Auto Pact when he returned to Windsor over the weekend.

The plan proposes removing the GST on Canadian-made vehicles and harmonizing tailpipe emissions reductions across North America.

To encourage auto production in Canada, a new rule would be put in place where for every car made in Canada, the same manufacturer would get to sell a car in Canada, duty-free, from a CUSMA partner, on a dollar-for-dollar basis.

“We will not sit idly by as our auto industry is hollowed out,” said Poilievre. “Conservatives are offering real solutions to save the jobs of our great Canadian auto workers.”

The plan also includes developing automotive security and technology by creating a harmonized North American cybersecurity and data standard.

“The Liberal plan will mean no more auto industry in Canada. Conservatives will bring back good-paying auto jobs, grow production and make Canada a place where we can build the future of our auto sector through tariff-free trade with the US,” said Poilievre.
