An Essex County man was arrested after a home invasion and stolen car chase that stretched across Lambton, Huron, and Perth counties.
Huron OPP were notified Wednesday morning by Lambton OPP about a threat investigation involving a man driving a minivan heading toward Huron County on Bluewater Highway.
Police flooded the Bayfield area, where they found the suspect vehicle abandoned just south of the community. Police alleged after ditching the minivan, the suspect forced his way into a nearby home and demanded car keys from the person inside. He took off in the stolen sedan heading east to Clinton, Seaforth, and Dublin where officers unsuccessfully attempted to stop him using tire deflation devices.
Officers from Lambton, Huron, and Perth counties, as well as OPP aviation, the West Region OPP emergency response team, and the canine unit were all involved in the pursuit.
From the air, police spotted the suspect heading back into Huron County.
Just before noon, an officer managed to safely stop the suspect vehicle on Base Line south of Auburn in the Municipality of Central Huron. Pictures from the scene shared on social media showed damage to the driver's side of the vehicle, indicating it may have made contact with the police cruiser.
Police allege the driver initially tried to run from the vehicle, but was quickly arrested and taken to hospital as a precaution.
No police officers were hurt.
An Essex County resident is expected to be charged with numerous offences by several police services, Huron OPP said.
