A woman is facing impaired driving charges following a crash that closed the E.C. Row Expressway during rush hour.
Windsor police say it happened at around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, in the westbound lanes near the Dougall Avenue off-ramp. A severely damaged Dodge Caliber was in a ditch, and two other vehicles sustained minor damage.
Police learned that the Dodge was travelling westbound when it came upon a traffic backup caused by construction. The driver did not stop in time, veered to the right, and struck two other vehicles.
The Dodge left the roadway, crossed over the guardrail, and rolled down an embankment.
When speaking with the driver, officers detected an odour of alcohol and slurred speech. She was checked out in hospital, then registered a warning after providing multiple sobriety tests.
The 55-year-old is charged with impaired driving. Her licence is suspended for seven days.
The charges have not been proven in court.
The crash closed the westbound E.C. Row between Dougall and Howard Avenues for the rest of the afternoon. It was reopened at around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
