Nominations open for this fall's municipal elections on Friday

If you've been thinking of running for a municipal council in the region, the period to file your nomination papers opens on Friday.

Starting at 8:30 a.m., potential candidates seeking nomination can file. The nomination period ends at 2 p.m. on August 21.

The forms to run in Windsor are available at 350 City Hall Square West at wickets 3 and 4 on the first floor, or online at www.WindsorElections.ca.

The fee to file nomination papers is $100 for city councillor and school board trustee candidates, and $200 for mayoral candidates. All fees must be paid by cash, credit card, or debit card.

The candidate will need to file the papers in person or by an agent during regular business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, or between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the final day, August 21.

Windsor strongly recommends that candidates make an appointment to file their papers in advance.

Candidates must be a resident, a tenant, or the spouse of a resident of the town or city council they are running for, a Canadian citizen, at least 18, and not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.
