Driver with impaired driving after cyclist hit in Leamington

A 36-year-old cyclist is recovering after a collision with a vehicle early Sunday morning in Leamington, while the driver faces impaired driving charges.

The Ontario Provincial Police responded to the crash just before 2:30 a.m. at Erie Street South and Coronation Avenue.

The driver fled, but officers tracked him down shortly after.

The cyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police charged a 36-year-old man with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, operating a motor vehicle while impaired, operation causing bodily harm, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm.

The driver's license was suspended for 90 days, while his vehicle was impounded for a week.

The suspect will also appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on June 23.
