What's open and closed in Windsor-Essex on Victoria Day?

The temperature is rising outside, and we're now in the midst of the unofficial opening of the summer holiday season.

Monday is Victoria Day, a federal statutory holiday. Canada is the only former British realm with a holiday honouring Queen Victoria. This means there will be some closures and service interruptions on Monday.

All federal, provincial, and municipal offices will be closed on Victoria Day. There will be no mail delivery.

All Service Ontario branches will be closed. However, certain transactions, such as driver's licence renewals, can be completed online.

All four publicly-funded school boards serving Windsor-Essex will take Monday off and resume classes on Tuesday.

The University of Windsor and St. Clair College are both closed on Victoria Day.

The 311 call centre will close on Monday. To report municipal emergencies outside of business hours, such as sewer backups or fallen trees, call (519) 255-6326.

211 Windsor-Essex will remain open 24 hours as usual.

Residential garbage, yard waste, and recycling collection will continue as usual. Night commercial, front-end loader, and weekly non-eligible source recycling pickup will also not be delayed.

The City of Windsor's public drop-off and household waste chemical depots on Central Avenue will be closed on Victoria Day.

The WFCU Centre will be open for normal ice rentals on Monday, with a public skate scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon on the Greenshield Rink. The indoor pool will be closed.

All other Windsor community centres, customer care centres, and arenas are closed on Monday except for pre-booked and arranged rentals.

The Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre pool will be closed on Victoria Day, but the public fitness centre will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Adventure Bay Family Water Park will also be open from noon to 4 p.m.

All Windsor Public Library branches are closed on Sunday and Monday. Normal hours resume at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Homelessness and Housing Help (H-4) Hub at the former Windsor Water World will operate 24 hours as usual.

In the City of Windsor, metered parking will be free on Sunday and Monday, but all surface lots and garages will be paid as usual. The City's parking enforcement offices will be closed on Monday, but you may still make payments online.

The Chimczuk Museum and the Maison Francois Baby House are closed on Monday, their normal off day. The Streetcar No. 351 at the Legacy Beacon will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Transit Windsor buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Victoria Day. The customer service office at 300 Chatham Street West will be closed. If you can't wait till Tuesday to purchase a transit pass, visit an alternative location.

The Lakeview Park Marina's fuel dock and office will be open on Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The launch ramps will open at 6 a.m.

Devonshire Mall in Windsor will be open on Victoria Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tecumseh Mall in Windsor will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle will be open Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Most big-box stores, grocery stores, and chain restaurants will be open on Monday, but will likely have shortened hours. Check with your favourite location to avoid a wasted trip.

LCBO outlets are open on Monday as usual. Certain Beer Store outlets will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
