UPDATE: Windsor industrial fire causes $25K in damage

Windsor fire officials say three people were treated for smoke inhalation following a fire at a west-end business.

Firefighters were first called shortly before 9 a.m. on Thursday to the plant that formerly housed Nemak, on GN Booth Drive near Ojibway Parkway. Employees had reported what was called an industrial fire.

Within an hour, firefighters moved to attack a fire inside the plant, and it was declared out at around 1 p.m.

One person was taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and later released. Two others were treated by paramedics on the spot.

Representatives from the Ontario Ministry of Labour were on the scene.

"A ministry inspector has been assigned to investigate," read an email to WindsorNewsToday.ca from a Labour Ministry spokesperson. "As the investigation is ongoing, no further details are available at this time."

The investigation was completed early Thursday evening. Hot works was identified as the cause of the fire. Damage to stored auto parts and building services was estimated at $25,000.
