Suspect shot by Windsor Police dies, SIU looks for witnesses

A 35-year-old man shot by Windsor Police officers on Friday night has died.

The Special Investigations Unit says the man died Friday night after he was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Windsor Police were called to Thornberry Crescent and Rose-ville Garden Drive around 6:30 p.m. on Friday after receiving a call about a man with a knife.

When officers arrived, they found a man who had been in an altercation with the suspect with injuries. The suspect had fled, but officers found him, deployed their tasers, and then fired shots.

The protocol whenever police are involved in an incident that results in death, serious injury, or sexual assault is to call the Special Investigations Unit.

The SIU has assigned four investigators and two forensic investigators to the case. It's also looking for anyone who has information about the incident. They can call 1-800-787-8529 or go online to siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
