Windsorites staying close to home this summer because of high gas prices will have lots of events to attend.
The City of Windsor is planning a series of community events designed to engage the community and activate city spaces.
"We know that costs are extremely expensive right now in terms of getting in the car and driving around, so a lot of folks are going to make the decision to stay home and we want to make sure that they have a good summer and fall here in Windsor," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.
"There will be a program put together that goes through June, July, August, and September that allows residents an outlet to stay here, to still have a lot of fun in the community and get through this period of time," said Dilkens.
There will be around 36 city-led events planned with a $500,000 budget. All the the funds come from the Municipal Accommodation Tax, the tax collected from hotel stays throughout the city.
The events will be planned in three streams: the Riverfront Summer Series, Civic and Cultural facilities programming, and ward-specific community-focused events.
A full schedule will be proposed in the coming weeks.
