Lakeshore approves $380K to improve temporary library site

The Municipality of Lakeshore has signed off on funding to upgrade the current home of the Stoney Point Library.

On Tuesday night, Lakeshore Council approved $380,000 in new spending to improve the location, the temporary home of the library.

"As a Council, we know how important the library branch is to community members, and we are glad to continue to invest in the facility," said Mayor Tracey Bailey. "As we get ready to reopen the newly renovated Stoney Point Community Park on Canada Day, we’re also looking forward to the return of the library branch that will strengthen the sense of community and place that Pointe-aux-Roches residents have been advocating for."

The money will help support the restoration of the site, where the Stoney Point Tavern once stood. The rest of the area will consist of a parking lot to be used for the library and the future community park.

The Municipality purchased the former tavern in 2023.

The library branch will temporarily close to allow the work to begin. No immediate timetable was given for a reopening date.
