Local seniors active living centres share $446,402 from the province

MPP Trevor Jones has announced that five seniors' active living clubs in Essex and Kent Counties will share $446,402 in provincial funding.

Two of the organizations are in Essex County. Club de l'Age d'Or Le Foyer Pointe-Aux-Roche will receive $55,598, while the Leamington and District Half-Century Centre will get $56,425. Another $52,640 is earmarked for the Leamington and District Half-Century Club in Wheatley.

"Seniors Active Living Centres play an important role in helping older adults stay active, engaged, and connected to their communities," said Jones, the MPP for Chatham-Kent-Leamington. "This investment will ensure that more seniors in Chatham-Kent-Leamington have access to programs and services that support healthy, independent living while fostering meaningful social connections close to home."

The Ontario government is investing $23-million this year to support 416 seniors' active living programs across the province. The government said the investment, which includes 97 new centres, is a record.

The investment also celebrates the 60th anniversary of the first six Elderly Persons' Centres established in 1966.

Last year, the centres received their first funding boost in 15 years.

Jones also announced the Active Living Centre in Chatham will receive $56,770. A total of $57,602 will go to the Ridgetown and Area Adult Activity Centre, and $55,528 will go to the Morpeth Heritage 60+ Club.
