PGA Rocket Classic to end in Detroit this summer

A summer destination for people in golf-happy Michigan will end this summer.

The mortgage company Rocket has announced that it is declining the 2027 option to serve as the title sponsor of the PGA Rocket Classic, held at the historic Detroit Golf Club. Therefore, this summer's tournament will be the last.

"We are incredibly proud of what this tournament has meant to the city, from creating unforgettable moments for fans to raising more than $10-million (US) for local organizations," read a statement from Rocket provided to WindsorNewsToday.ca.

Despite recent struggles to secure the participation of some of the PGA Tour's top golfers, Rocket said it had no regrets and called the eight-year run a success.

"When we launched the Rocket Classic, our mission was to shine a national spotlight on Detroit," read the statement. "That mission has been accomplished, our city is celebrated as the model for resilience, innovation, and community-driven progress."

The statement added that all stops will be pulled to ensure that this summer's tournament will be a fitting finale.

This year's event will run from July 30 to August 2. Previously, the tournament was held around Canada Day and the Fourth of July, but the 2026 Classic will take place two weeks after the British Open.

Among the top golfers committed to playing in Detroit are Cameron Young, Russell Henley, Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley, and Tony Finau. The 2025 Classic was won by South African Aldrich Potgeiter.

Complete information about the tournament and tickets can be found on the Rocket Classic's official website.
