Skaters in the Lakeshore area have a new and improved place to show off their skills.
The Municipality held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday for the new Optimist Park Skate Park.
Mayor Tracey Bailey was accompanied by members of Lakeshore council, municipality staff, and local skate enthusiasts.
"The opening is about more than a skate park. It is a place where people of all ages can build confidence, develop skills, support one another, and express themselves," said Bailey. "It belongs to the community, and reflects the energy, ideas, and support of the community members who helped see it come together."
The $300,000 skate park was approved by councillors in 2025. While the attraction was being designed, the Municipality pored over 200 survey responses from people who shared what they'd hope to see in the final product.
Construction was undertaken by the Canada Ramp Company, which built the skate park in a different location than the old one in Optimist Park. Planners were looking ahead to the future expansion of County Road 22.
A monument honouring Blake Levenick, who passed away in 2004 and was the inspiration behind the first skate park, has been relocated from its old location.
