Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for areas in southwestern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a yellow severe thunderstorm watch for parts of southwestern Ontario.

The alert was put into effect at around 2 p.m. on Sunday and is expected to last until Sunday evening.

According to Environment Canada, areas could see quarter- to ping-pong-ball-sized hail and up to 90-kilometre-per-hour wind gusts. Local power outages are also possible.

The watch reminds people to go inside when weather becomes severe, noting that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.

The alert is currently in effect for Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton, and Windsor-Essex.
