Employees at Windsor's NextStar Energy battery plant now have their first-ever long-term contract.
Unifor Local 444 confirmed in a Facebook post on Thursday that its plant membership had ratified a new three-year contract. The union did not provide specifics on how many workers voted in favour.
"This new three-year agreement delivers significant gains across the board, including wage increases, accelerated wage progression, increased benefits, productivity/signing bonuses, annual inflation protection bonuses, maintained performance bonuses, enhanced skilled trades compensation, improved pension contributions, and meaningful workplace and language improvements that will benefit our membership for years to come," read the post from the union.
The employees received their first collective bargaining agreement in the summer of 2025, but it was meant to be a stopgap until talks began on a longer deal.
Talks began at the start of July, and the employees voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action.
"Thank you to everyone who participated in the democratic process and stood together throughout bargaining," read the Facebook post.
