Cabin crew on a Canadian airline will continue to fly under a new collective bargaining agreement.
Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 8125 have ratified a new deal with WestJet. The union said that 90.2 per cent of flight attendants who participated in the vote said yes.
About 4,400 flight attendants are affected.
"This is a strong mandate from our members and recognition of the meaningful gains we made at the bargaining table," said CUPE Local 8125 President Alia Hussein. "This is only our second contract, and we made important progress, including making sure our members are compensated for more of the work they already do."
WestJet offers flights to Calgary several times a week from Windsor International Airport during the summer.
"We are pleased our cabin crew voted to ratify this agreement, one that modernizes how cabin crew are compensated," said WestJet Group CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech. "The ratified agreement reflects the collaborative efforts of both parties and provides a foundation for WestJet's continued success."
The agreement follows months of negotiations that had reached an impasse earlier this summer. Flight attendants walked off the job on August 2, but a tentative agreement was reached shortly after, and they returned to work the following day.
The current deal runs through December 31, 2028. It includes wage increases as well as improvements in working conditions.
