Windsor-Essex is under a yellow warning for heat, and now a heat warning from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
Medical Officer of Health Dr Mehdi Aloosh issued the warning on Monday morning. It will expire on Wednesday.
A heat warning is issued any time when two or more consecutive days are expected to have daytime highs of at least 31 C, and overnight lows equal to or greater than 21 C, or a humidex of 42 C or higher.
Symptoms of heat-related illness can include dizziness, headache, nausea or vomiting, weakness, and confusion. Anyone experiencing those symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.
The health unit recommends drinking water even if you don't feel thirsty, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, and wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. It also suggests leaving outdoor activities until the coolest part of the day.
Everyone is at risk of heat-related illness, but older adults, babies and young children, those with medical conditions, and those who work outside are at greater risk.
