The Small Business and Entrepreneurship Centre has a new three-year contract with the Ontario government to continue its mentorship and grant programming in the community.
Associate Minister of Small Business Nina Tangri visited Windsor on Thursday to announce $49-million for the next three years, funding Ontario Small Business Advisory Centres (OSBAC) across the province.
Sabrina DeMarco, Executive Director of the Windsor-Essex branch, says many people are looking for opportunities as the trade war escalates.
"There's no shortage of ideas," said DeMarco. "There's a lot of interest in our community by people who have an idea that they want to pursue and turn into a thriving small business."
The funding represents an increase of around 10 per cent in the centre's base funding plus increased grant opportunities for its Summer Company and Starter Company Plus programs. Through these programs, entrepreneurs can receive up to $5,000 to help launch their businesses.
Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie said the funding is needed to help generate homegrown business in the face of U.S. tariffs.
"By connecting business owners with local support, funding opportunities and expert advice, we are helping businesses grow, create jobs and contribute to a more prosperous Ontario," said Dowie.
Small Business Centres are also located in Essex, Chatham, Sarnia, London, and St. Thomas.
