Shelter-in-place lifted in Essex neighbourhood

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have lifted a shelter-in-place order in Essex, after a person barricaded themselves in a home.

Few details have been released, but police announced on social media shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Thursday that people in the area of Patrick Circle in Essex should shelter in place.

"Officers are responding to a disturbance involving a barricaded and potentially armed individual," read the post from the OPP. "All others are to avoid the area and follow any instructions provided by officers in the vicinity."

Residents in the area were asked to stay inside with doors and windows locked, and if outside, to find a secure location.

For those in the area who were driving, the OPP asked those people to go straight to their destination and not pick up any hitchhikers.

"We recognize the emotional impact sheltering-in-place can cause," read the post. "Officers are taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation."

Police arrested one person and are not looking for other suspects.
